The farmers market continues to be open through October 26th, every Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon at Rock Falls Park, just south of Slippery Rock. There is an ever-increasing variety of fresh, local, mostly organic or naturally grown, fruits, vegetable, eggs and meats; value-added food products; craft items and more.
Coming up this Saturday, September 21st: “Harvest for the Hungry” and Harvest Picnic:
On Saturday, September 21st, the market will participate in “Harvest for the Hungry,” a hunger-relief effort sponsored by the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA)/Western PA Buy Fresh Buy Local, in conjunction with their celebration of Local Food Month in September. ( http://www.pasafarming.org/events/pasa-events/local-food-month-harvest-for-the-hungry-farmers-market-events-1 ) This is a “fun, charitable event that gives farmers market customers an opportunity to support their local farmers while giving back to families in need.” At our local event on the 21st, market visitors can purchase extra produce from vendors, and drop it off with volunteers at the market, who will donate it to Slippery Rock’s “Feed My Sheep” food pantry.
Also during this week’s market, music will be provided by Dennis Malley, and kids can participate in making leaf prints.
Following the market, vendors, patrons and market friends are invited to join in a “Harvest Picnic” to celebrate another great market season. A potluck picnic will be served at 1:00 p.m. There will be live music, vendors, kids’ activities and more. Bring a dish to share and your own place setting and utensils. Locally-sourced hamburgers and hot dogs will be available for a small donation.
