“Pathway to Our Sustainable Future” presentation by Dr. Patricia DeMarco

Sustainable Slippery Rock, together with Slippery Rock University, will sponsor a presentation by Patricia M. DeMarco, former director of the Rachel Carson Institute, on Monday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m. in the Spotts World Culture Auditorium (Room 111) on the SRU campus.  This free event is open to students, faculty, staff, and the public…all who are interested.

Dr. DeMarco has had a 30-year career in energy and environmental policy and has served in both private and public sector positions, including Manager of Demand Side Services for the Connecticut Municipal Electric Energy Cooperative, Executive Director of the Connecticut Power Facilities Evaluation Council, Fifth Congressional District Representative to the Connecticut Hazardous Waste Management Service, and Commissioner of the Regulatory Commission of Alaska.  She is an experienced entrepreneur who founded The Energy Roundtable, E Cubed Corporation, an energy trading company, Technology for Connecticut, Inc. a declassified defense technology commercialization company, and headed the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation.  She served as the Assistant Dean of the University of Alaska College of Business and Public Policy.  She held the position of Executive Director of the Rachel Carson Homestead Association from 2006 to 2010 and as Director of the Rachel Carson Institute at Chatham University until 2012.  As a Rachel Carson scholar, Patricia DeMarco writes and teaches environmental ethics and public policy based on Rachel Carson’s work.  Her current research interest focuses on removing the institutional barriers to sustainability.
