February Slow Food Event at SRU

crockpoteventapproved (2) (618x800)The next event hosted by the Slow Food chapter of Slippery Rock University will be held on Thursday, February 26th at 6:00 PM. Due to the great turnout for the January event and the need for more space, this one will be held at the Slippery Rock Alliance Church, 530 Kiester Road. Students and community members alike are welcome to attend.

This month’s theme is “Crock Pot Meals,” featuring dishes that can be made in a slow cooker.  Creativity is encouraged!  In order to reduce disposables and model sustainable practices, attendees are asked to bring their own (reusable) place setting, including plate, bowl, eating utensils and cup or mug.

Backyard Maple Sugaring at Jennings

Saturday, February 28, 2015: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
(Optional sugar bush tour 1 – 2 p.m.)

Here’s an opportunity for adults who want to try making their own tasty maple syrup! From choosing appropriate trees through tapping, collecting and evaporating maple sap, participants will learn, observe and practice the steps in the sugaring process, and discover how it can be done on a backyard scale. Information and resources will be provided for finding out more and getting started at home. The program is free, with equipment available to purchase. Registration is required by February 20.
